Gynecomastia – Male Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgeries for males: Abnormal fat tissue development in males, in the breast tissue and around the breast. Benign enlargement of breast tissue has 2 causes: firstly, structural abnormalities or fatness and secondly, excess fat in the breast.
Gynecomastia, on the other hand, is the persistent adolescent breast growth in males. It is also seen frequently in fifties. It not only can be seen in a physiologically healthy individual without any reason, but also may be the result of drug use, chronic illnesses, some hormonal disorders and some tumors.
Determination of the reason for gynecomastia differential diagnosis is followed by treatment planning. Depending on the size and sagging skin, gynecomastia is separated into 3 phases. In the first phase, size is in limited levels and there is no sagging in the skin. In the second phase, the breast looks like of a big female, but there is no sagging in the skin. In the third and last phase, the skin is so saggy that it requires treatment.
Treatment of male breast growth due to excess fat is conducted in a short time in the early phases with a simple application of liposuction under local anesthesia. It can also occur in elderly males due to medicines or weight gain/loss. In the later phases characterized by excess skin, gynecomastia treatment may require vacuum suction or removal of the excess from the breast and skin tissues with the incision around the nipple. Depending on the technique, the operation may be conducted under general anesthesia and local anesthesia-sedation.
After the surgery a tight corset must be worn. It is enough to wear the corset for 3 weeks in average.
